Aerodynamics Project Leader

Overview

In this role you drive aerodynamic performance from concept to track validation, leading a team of engineers within Williams F1 Team. You balance CFD, wind tunnel, and manufacturing constraints to deliver a correlated, race-ready solution. You shape project direction, coach engineers, and ensure efficient use of limited resources under FIA regulations and the cost cap. You work cross-functionally to protect aerodynamic intent while aligning with race calendar goals. This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership position at the heart of F1 engineering.

Responsibilities

• Lead from concept generation to on-car implementation, translating performance targets into actionable plans
• Plan and execute wind tunnel tests, analyze data, and steer course based on results
• Contribute hands-on in CAD to develop aerodynamic surfaces as needed
• Drive releases in collaboration with Design Office, Structures, Composites and Manufacturing
• Support trackside introduction of new parts with Vehicle Performance and trackside engineers
• Mentor and empower engineers, promote open challenge and post-project learning
• Foster continuous improvement of tools, methods, and processes
• Identify and manage risks early to keep projects on schedule

Key requirements

• Multiple years’ experience in F1 aerodynamic development
• Proven track record leading projects through full aero development lifecycle
• Familiarity with CFD techniques, including non-standard models
• Experience planning and running wind tunnel programmes and interpreting CFD, tunnel, and track data
• Strong understanding of ATR and cost cap framework
• CAD proficiency for aerodynamic surfaces (preferably NX)
• Strong written and verbal communication, and ability to develop junior team members
