Job Description API Engineer - Envoy Location: Glasgow - 5 days onsite Contract: 6 months Rate: £425 per day IR35: Inside IR35 Experience: Banking/Financial Services essential We are urgently looking for an experienced API Engineer with strong hands-on Envoy Proxy/Envoy Gateway experience to join a major banking technology programme in Glasgow.
This is a specialist API engineering role, so candidates must have proven practical experience with Envoy rather than simply general API, Kubernetes or DevOps exposure. Key Responsibilities Design, configure and support Envoy Proxy/Envoy Gateway within a cloud-native banking environment.
Configure and manage API routing, services, upstreams and gateway policies. Troubleshoot complex API routing, connectivity and Proxy issues. Implement API authentication and authorisation at gateway level. Support secure and highly available API gateway architectures.
Work with engineering and platform teams on Kubernetes-based API infrastructure. Manage API gateway configuration through controlled, automated deployment processes. Contribute to CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code and cloud-native engineering practices.
Essential Experience Strong hands-on Envoy Proxy or Envoy Gateway experience - essential Strong Java or Golang development experience Strong REST API experience OpenAPI Specification (OAS) experience API gateway authentication and authorisation OAuth 2.0/OIDC JWT validation mTLS Kubernetes/cloud-native environments Terraform CI/CD pipelines Git-based development and configuration management Strong troubleshooting and production support experience Banking or financial services experience Desirable Envoy xDS/ADS Envoy filters and extensions ext_authz API gateway security policies AWS experience Docker GitOps/configuration-as-code Kong or other API Gateway experience Important Strong Envoy experience is a key requirement for this position.
We are not looking for candidates with only generic API Gateway, Kubernetes or DevOps experience.
