Assistant Accounts Manager

Overview

As an Assistant Accounts Manager, you will oversee a diverse client portfolio, ensure tax compliance, and provide expert advisory services within a well-established accountancy practice. You will manage year-end work, VAT and tax returns, and support clients with accounting software and planning. This role combines technical accounting with proactive client advisory to support growth and compliance. You will work closely with clients and internal teams to deliver accurate financial and tax solutions.

Responsibilities

• Prepare year-end accounts, VAT, PAYE and tax returns to required standards
• Liaise with clients to gather information and provide proactive advice
• Review and finalise accounts and tax documentation for HMRC submission
• Advise clients on tax liabilities, deadlines and payment planning
• Maintain accurate chargeable time records and meet targets
• Manage bookkeeping, ledgers and management accounts as needed
• Assist clients with accounting software and bookkeeping queries
• Contribute to tax planning strategies and support complex tax matters

Key requirements

• At least 10 years of experience in practice
• Strong tax knowledge and accounts preparation expertise
• Proven ability to handle complex tax matters and review financial documents
• Proficiency with accounting systems, ideally Sage or similar
• Experience managing accounts and maintaining client relationships
• Skilled at budgeting and producing management/financial reports
