Bid Director – MEP Construction

Overview

In this senior role, you will lead the Bid and pre-construction function for a major MEP contractor in Gatwick, steering the full bid lifecycle and a dedicated bid team. You will craft winning bid strategies, coordinate input from engineering, commercial, design and operations teams, and ensure technically robust, commercially competitive submissions.

You will work closely with clients, consultants and internal stakeholders to secure bids that align with project requirements and company goals. This is a high-impact opportunity to shape how data centres and mission-critical facilities are bid and delivered at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Bid Team with strategic direction throughout the tender process
• Own the full bid lifecycle from opportunity identification to submission and handover
• Develop bid strategies that are technically robust and commercially competitive
• Prepare high-quality tender submissions, proposals, and commercial documentation
• Coordinate with pre-construction, estimating, engineering, design, procurement and operations
• Review requirements, specifications, drawings, and technical docs for accurate bid responses
• Provide leadership on pricing, value engineering, risk assessments, and commercial considerations
• Ensure bids are delivered on time and meet quality standards
• Build relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
• Lead bid reviews, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Mentor and develop bid and pre-construction teams; support transition to delivery teams

Key requirements

• Proven experience leading bids within the MEP construction sector (essential)
• Strong background in pre-construction, estimating, tender management, or commercial bid leadership
• Extensive knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical building services
• Experience delivering bids for large-scale projects such as data centres, mission-critical facilities, industrial projects, commercial developments, pharmaceutical / life science projects
• Ability to understand complex MEP designs, specifications, and construction methodologies
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing teams
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management abilities
• Commercially aware with strong negotiation and analytical skills
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tender deadlines
