Job Description Chief EngineerDue to sustained growth, a significant forward order workload and a continued commitment to be at the forefront of the industry, our client is now searching for an experienced Chief Engineer.
The successful candidate will act as the companys technical authority and be responsible for leading and approving innovative, creative and winning design packages in line with client key drivers, and project programs and budgets.
You will take accountability directing and supporting a team of Design Engineers of varying levels of experience. The RoleTo ensure on time delivery of Right First Time compliant designsTo lead all mechanical design activities within the engineering design departmentProvide advice and support to the sales and applications function in the tendering of workTo ensure work is completed efficiently to project timescales and to acceptable standardsTo promote value engineering activity and cost reduction at all levelsTo ensure staff work in accordance with company proceduresMaintaining relevant processes and updating as necessary to fulfil the business needsOversee General Engineering GovernanceMonitor engineering progress and provide status reports to the Technical DirectorTo provide the technical input for engineering purchase specificationsTo generate technical reports, calculations and design schemesCheck and approve design schemes, customer calculations, subcontract technical submissions and ensure quality and consistency of submissions in line with current working practices and standards are maintainedManage subcontract designs from a technical aspect effective and efficientMaintain job records in accordance with company norms and practicesTo ensure process and procedures are relevant, reviewed and updated where requiredRepresent the Mechanical Design Engineering function at Customer site reviewsMaintain company records and knowledge base definition drawingsUse IT packages effectively in the course of engineering activitiesInterpret and approve engineering drawings produced by your teamGenerate concise and presentable sketches and reports for issue to a range of customersInterpret and implement engineering specifications and standards to ensure compliancePreparation of engineering calculations over a number of disciplines in support of designsPerform concept and detail design workDesign hazard identification and risk reductionIdentify any shortfalls and work with department head to recruit or subcontractReview and appraise the mechanical design team with consideration of competencyTo lead by example and operate to the highest engineering professional code of conductThe PersonPossess a mechanical engineering degree and experience in a team leading / similar roleResilient problem-solving & decision-making skills coupled with great analytical capabilitiesProactive attitudeAdvanced understanding of mechanical engineering principlesAbility to create and approve technical designs to satisfy customer requirementsProficiency in of standard industry design packagesA focus on building and maintaining client and supplier relationships.
Strong organisational and communication skills to support project and company goalsExperience of working in a fast-paced environment and delivering to challenging timescalesFlexible attitude to variety in your work scopePossess a full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK without sponsorshipEssential Skills & KnowledgeStress analysis by hand calculation, Mechanical Hardware, Structural Steelwork and Fabrication & Welding.
Desirable Skills & KnowledgeFlow Analysis (CFD), Stress Analysis (FEA), Acoustics, Systems Engineering- requirements through to compliance, Industrial Acoustic Hardware, Exhaust Systems, Filtration and Lifting equipment.
