Compliance Monitoring Lead Location: London Working arrangement: Hybrid – three days in the office Business: International specialty insurance and reinsurance The opportunity We are working with an established international insurance and reinsurance business seeking a Compliance Monitoring Lead to join its Commercial division.
The role will provide dedicated second-line compliance monitoring across both a Lloyd’s managing agency and an international reinsurance operation. This is a senior, hands-on position with ownership of the Compliance Monitoring Programme.
An initial framework, methodology and monitoring plan are already in place, but the successful candidate will be encouraged to review, refine and improve the approach. You will be responsible for prioritising and delivering the monitoring plan, conducting reviews, producing clear reports and ensuring agreed remedial actions are properly implemented and evidenced.
Key responsibilities Take ownership of the Compliance Monitoring Framework, methodology and plan. Review and prioritise monitoring activity based on regulatory, operational and business risk. Scope and deliver thematic reviews, deep dives, file testing and cyclical monitoring.
Assess the design and operating effectiveness of compliance controls. Produce clear, evidence-based monitoring reports for senior stakeholders. Identify control weaknesses, root causes and appropriate remedial actions. Agree actions and realistic delivery dates with business owners.
Track findings through to completion and validate closure evidence. Ensure monitoring remains aligned with regulatory developments, Internal Audit findings and organisational change. Develop meaningful compliance monitoring MI and reporting.
Work collaboratively with Compliance, Risk and first-line business functions. Provide constructive challenge while maintaining second-line independence. Continuously improve the monitoring framework and supporting documentation.
The ideal candidate Previous experience delivering end-to-end compliance monitoring reviews. Strong understanding of compliance monitoring methodology and control testing. Insurance, reinsurance, underwriting or insurance-broking experience.
Excellent written reporting skills. Strong stakeholder-management and influencing capability. Experience agreeing and tracking remedial actions. Understanding of the Three Lines of Defence model. Ability to work independently and take ownership of a monitoring programme.
Strong analytical skills and professional judgement. Previous Lloyd’s managing agency experience would be highly advantageous. However, candidates from broader insurance, reinsurance or broking environments will also be considered where they can demonstrate strong monitoring methodology and delivery experience.
