Data Engineer

Overview In this Data Engineer role within Medtronic's AI and Algorithm team in Edinburgh, you will design and operate data pipelines powering AI-driven patient monitoring research. You contribute to end-to-end data lifecycle management across clinical trials, sensor platforms, and HPC environments, enabling reliable data for innovation.

You will work with cross-functional teams to shape data infrastructure and standards for R&D. This is a hands-on position at the intersection of healthcare, data engineering, and advanced analytics, offering impact at scale.

Pay / Benefits competitive salary flexible benefits package short-term incentive plan (MIP) Responsibilities Own end-to-end data lifecycle from clinical study data collection to clinical validation trials Design and manage scalable data infrastructure across clinical trials, sensor platforms, and HPC environments Maintain and optimize data storage, access, security, and backup systems Develop data manipulation, processing, and testing tools for data quality and reliability Define and implement data architecture, engineering best practices, and standards across R&D Collaborate with AI engineers, researchers, and cross-functional teams to align data systems with project goals Enable reliable, efficient data usage for AI, machine learning, and signal processing applications Drive data architecture decisions and continuous improvements in a dynamic R&D environment Key requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field 4+ years of relevant professional experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a related field Strong expertise in database architecture, design, and management Proven experience developing and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines and scalable data workflows Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, or other relevant programming languages Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation, and configuration management collaborative mindset adaptability in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment strong communication and problem-solving abilities database architecture and management ETL/ELT pipeline development Python
