Kindsight Recruitment Ltd · London, England ·
Buddy / Support Worker – Young Adult with Cerebral Palsy Location: Sutton Coldfield (B74) / Tamworth (B78) Salary: £13.31 per hour weekdays | £15.76 per hour weekends Hours: Part-time – afternoons/evenings and alternate weekends This is more than a traditional Support Worker role.
We are looking for a Buddy / Support Worker to build a genuine, long-term relationship with an outgoing, sociable and fun-loving 18-year-old young man with cerebral palsy. This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody who wants to move away from traditional agency-style support and work consistently with one individual – getting to know him properly, sharing his interests and helping him live a busy, active and fulfilling life.
And he certainly likes to keep busy! Football is a huge part of his life. He's a massive Aston Villa supporter and regularly travels around the country – and abroad – to watch them play. Away from football, he enjoys gaming, concerts, festivals, sporting events, nights out with friends, weekends away and holidays .
We're therefore looking for somebody who doesn't just want to turn up for a shift. We want someone who can become a consistent and trusted part of his life . What will you be doing? Your role will combine companionship with practical and personal support, helping him enjoy as much independence as possible while ensuring his safety and wellbeing.
You'll support him with: Building confidence and independence Personal care and daily routines Getting out into the community Football matches and other sporting events Concerts, festivals and social activities Nights out and spending time with friends Gaming and his other interests Driving his wheelchair-accessible vehicle (WAV) Longer journeys around the UK Weekends away and holidays in the UK and abroad This is very much a one-to-one role , and building a strong, trusting relationship will be just as important as the practical support you provide.
Who are we looking for? Personality and attitude are incredibly important. You'll ideally be someone who is: Friendly, positive and easy to get along with Fun and outgoing with a good sense of humour Calm and patient Reliable and genuinely looking for something long-term Energetic and happy to get involved Comfortable providing personal care Confident supporting someone with a physical disability Interested in football, sport and/or gaming Happy travelling and accompanying him on trips and holidays You'll also need a full, clean UK driving licence and must be a confident driver.
This includes motorway driving and being comfortable completing journeys of up to approximately three hours when required. Previous experience within care, support work or supporting young people with disabilities would be beneficial, but we're much more interested in finding the right person with the right attitude and values.
Full training and ongoing support will be provided. Working Hours The role is part-time and currently includes: Tuesday afternoon/evening: 7–8 hours Wednesday afternoon/evening: 7–8 hours Alternate Friday afternoon/evening: 7–9 hours Alternate Saturday/Sunday: 12 hours Why consider this role?
If you're looking for a standard support role where you complete your shift and go home, this probably isn't it. But if you want to work consistently with one young person, build a genuine relationship and support him through an exciting stage of his life, this could be an incredibly rewarding opportunity.
You'll get to support someone to do the things he genuinely loves – whether that's heading to Villa Park, travelling to an away game, going to a concert, spending time with friends or getting on a plane for another adventure.
And if you happen to be an Aston Villa fan too... you may have just found your dream Support Worker job. If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today or get in touch for a confidential conversation about the role.
