Job Description Site Maintenance Operative / CaretakerLocation: HampshireSalary: £28,712 - £29,918 per annum (including shift allowance)Contract: Permanent, Full TimeStart Date: ASAPHays Education is working with a well-established Multi-Academy Trust in Hampshire to recruit a proactive and reliable Site Maintenance Operative to join their Estates team.

This is a varied and rewarding role supporting multiple educational settings across the trust. No two days are the same. One day you could be carrying out maintenance repairs, decorating classrooms, maintaining outdoor spaces, or assisting with site security and lettings.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring school environments remain safe, secure, and welcoming for staff, students, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out general maintenance and repair work across multiple school sites. Complete painting and decorating tasks. Undertake basic carpentry, fencing, ground maintenance, and minor repairs. Operate ground maintenance equipment and power tools safely.

Assist with site security, waste management, and care taking dutiesSupport health and safety inspections and compliance activitiesReport maintenance and safety issues promptlyProvide support to community lettings and facility users during evening and weekend shiftsWork collaboratively within a close-knit estates team to maintain high standards across all sitesWhat We Are Looking For: Experience in maintenance, care taking, facilities, estates, construction, or a similar hands-on roleAbility to carry out a range of basic repairs and maintenance tasks independentlyStrong understanding of health and safety practicesPractical, proactive approach with excellent problem-solving skillsAbility to work as part of a team and manage workload effectivelyWillingness to work a rotating shift pattern, including occasional weekendsShift PatternThis role operates on a rota basis, including: Early shifts: 7:00am - 3:30pmDay shifts: 8:00am - 4:30pmLate shifts: 2:30pm - 10:30pmOne weekend per monthA 14% shift allowance is included within the advertised salary.
