Financial Controller

Overview

As Financial Controller, you will lead the finance function for a Nottingham-based manufacturing leader. You will deliver monthly management accounts, budgeting, forecasting and treasury activities, while ensuring robust financial controls and statutory compliance.

You’ll partner with senior stakeholders to challenge performance and drive improvements across processes, systems, and change projects. This is a hands-on role with scope to influence strategy, enable growth, and support acquisitions and system implementations.

You’ll work in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, collaboration, and proactive problem-solving matter.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the finance function and guide the finance team
• Produce monthly management accounts and financial reporting within deadlines
• Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and maintain records integrity
• Manage cash flow forecasting, working capital and treasury activities
• Prepare budgets, forecasts and variance analysis for decision-making
• Ensure compliance with statutory, tax and regulatory requirements including VAT and corporation tax
• Coordinate year-end audits and liaise with external auditors
• Review and improve financial processes, systems and controls for efficiency and scalability
• Provide commercial and financial analysis to support operational and strategic initiatives
• Partner with senior stakeholders to challenge performance and identify improvement opportunities
• Support growth, acquisitions, system implementations and change projects

Key requirements

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
• Experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar senior finance role
• Manufacturing experience beneficial
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial reporting experience
• Proven ability to produce management accounts, budgets and forecasts
• Experience mentoring finance staff
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Advanced Excel and familiarity with ERP/accounting systems
• Excellent communication and stakeholder influence skills
