Forward Deployed Engineering - Director

Overview

In this role you will lead a high-performing Forward Deployed Engineering squad embedded with Citi’s Lines of Business to translate complex business challenges into production-ready AI agents. You will set architectural standards, govern evaluation gates, and drive rapid, enterprise-grade delivery across multiple AI agent projects.

You’ll mentor engineers, manage cross-team partnerships, and shape integrations with core banking systems to deliver real business value. This is a hands-on leadership role at the cutting edge of AI engineering with a strong emphasis on governance and delivery impact.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary delivery partner to LOB MDs, CIOs, and business heads across NYC and London
• Direct sprint planning, resource allocation, technical architecture, and rapid delivery for 3–5 concurrent AI agent projects
• Ensure agentic software adheres to enterprise blueprints, Agentflow gates, and Lakera Guardrails
• Mentor and coach an embedded squad of 8 senior engineers (C12–C14)
• Lead design and implementation of system integrations between autonomous agents and banking backends, databases, and third-party APIs

Key requirements

• 15+ years of technology experience
• 8+ years leading engineering squads in Tier-1 banking, top-tier tech, or fintech
• Hands-on knowledge of LLMs, autonomous agents, embeddings, vector search, MCP
• Proven ability to deliver complex distributed systems in regulated production environments
• Strong track record in attracting and retaining senior engineering talent
• Knowledge of financial products, capital markets, wealth management, or enterprise banking operations
