M&E Managing Director
All The Top Bananas · Manchester, England ·
The Opportunity Our client is one of the North Wests leading building services providers, and they are looking for a M&E Managing Director to take full P&L ownership of the business. It is a genuine leadership appointment: setting the strategy, leading the senior team and owning the commercial performance of an established, profitable company now operating within a well-funded national technical services group.
The role is primarily about running the M&E building services side of the business: mechanical and electrical projects, engineering services and the teams delivering them. Alongside that sits a smaller facilities management and maintenance arm, which you would also have oversight of.
That recurring work gives the business a more resilient revenue base than a pure project contractor and a broader set of levers to grow. The package reflects the seniority: £95,000 to £130,000 depending on experience, plus profit share and a full benefits package.
The profit share element matters, as it means your reward is tied directly to the performance you deliver rather than sitting separately from it. About the Business Our client is an established M&E building services contractor based in Manchester, delivering mechanical and electrical engineering projects across a broad client base, with a smaller planned and reactive maintenance arm alongside.
Their clients span commercial and corporate estates, retail, banking, education, healthcare, social housing, industrial and public sector, including a number of nationally recognised organisations and long-standing framework relationships.
The business sits within a well-funded national technical services group with a clear growth strategy, which gives the Managing Director real resource behind them: an integrated offer to take to market, opportunities to collaborate and cross-sell across the group, and a backer with genuine appetite for expansion.
Environmental performance is treated seriously rather than presentationally, with ISO 14001 compliance and a committed net zero target supported by a formal carbon reduction plan. What You'll Be Doing Taking full P&L ownership of the business, with accountability for turnover, margin and growth Setting and delivering the strategic plan, in conjunction with the wider group and shareholders Leading the senior management team across M&E projects, engineering services, commercial and the maintenance arm Driving new business, framework positions and key client relationships at senior level Overseeing operational delivery standards, contract performance and client satisfaction across the portfolio Identifying and developing opportunities to collaborate and cross-sell with the wider group Reporting to the board and shareholders on performance, forecast, risk and opportunity Owning the culture of the business, including recruitment, retention and development of the team Maintaining governance, health and safety, compliance and the businesss environmental commitments What We're Looking For A proven track record at Managing Director, Operations Director or Divisional Director level within M&E building services or building services contracting Demonstrable experience of full P&L responsibility and delivering profitable growth Commercially strong, with genuine understanding of contract structures, margin management and risk Credible at board and client level, with the presence to lead senior relationships An M&E building services background is essential; exposure to maintenance or FM contracting is useful given the smaller service arm, but this is not an FM leadership role A leadership style that builds and retains a team, rather than simply directing one Experience of growing a business through new clients, frameworks or service lines Full UK driving licence What's on Offer £95,000 - £130,000 depending on experience Profit share, tying reward directly to the performance you deliver Full benefits package Genuine autonomy to lead an established, profitable business The backing of a growing group with a clear appetite for expansion and an integrated offer to take to market A business with a strong regional reputation, recurring maintenance revenue alongside its project work, and long-standing client relationships
