Job Description Management AccountantDepartment: Finance Salary: £35,000£45,000 DOE Reporting to: Managing Director Location: Remote / Work from Home Hours: Full Time, 37.5 hours per weekThe role is primarily working from home.
Candidates based in Aberdeen or elsewhere in Scotland are particularly desirable, although the company is open to candidates based anywhere for the right person. For a candidate based in Aberdeen. The successful candidate would have the opportunity to meet with the team approximately once a week, with additional face-to-face meetings where required for collaboration and brainstorming.
Responsible for - Undertaking all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and proceduresFinancial Responsibility - Company AccountsPurpose and objectives of the roleThe primary responsibility for the Management Accountant is to undertake all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget, and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures.
Management Accountant's responsibilities will also include financial risk management. The MA will have the ability to motivate the finance team, to produce quality materials within tight time frames and simultaneously manage several projects.
Additional information: This is a standalone finance role rather than a team management position. The key focus will be on cash management, cash-flow forecasting, weekly management accounts, weekly P&L and weekly balance sheet reporting, as well as monitoring and supporting the timely collection of customer payments and overall cash flow.
The successful candidate will be expected to work with a high degree of autonomy, take ownership of their responsibilities and use their own initiative. Main duties and responsibilitiesResponsible for the provision of monthly management accounts and monthly reporting across the companys portfolio.
Oversee the bookkeeping function, monitor costs, produce cash-flow reports, VAT and adhoc projects to improve processes. Ensure timely monthly financial statements and MI to senior management. Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variancesCoordinate the preparation of regulatory reportingResearch technical accounting issues for complianceSupport month-end and year-end close processEnsure quality control over financial transactions and financial reportingDevelop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controlsAdditional controller duties as necessaryEnsure all Quality Management system requirements are followedAdditional duties and

Preparation of management board packs, including presenting financial information in clear PowerPoint presentations, graphs and other visual formats. Experience submitting R&D claims to Revenue would be a significant advantage.
Experience preparing grant applications would be an advantage. Experience with contract review would be beneficial, including identifying key financial or commercial considerations and determining when legal input may be required.
The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and be capable of addressing issues without needing constant support from senior management. The role will involve working towards high-level KPIs and taking ownership of financial responsibilities.
The company is open to candidates who do not have all of the additional experience listed above, provided they demonstrate the ability and willingness to learn. Special RequirementsProven working experience within a financial setting2+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experienceDegree in Accounting/Qualified by experience preferred or working towards financial qualifications in an accountancy roleCA or CIMA preferredThorough knowledge of accounting principles and proceduresExperience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close processExperience with Xero is an advantageAdvanced Excel skillsAdditional information: Candidates working towards formal accounting qualifications will be considered.
ACCA or CIMA studies are acceptable, with the company open to candidates working towards their final examinations. Advanced Excel skills are required, including confidence using formulas. Xero is the accounting software currently used by the company.
Experience within the software industry would be advantageous but is not essential. Experience preparing management board packs is highly desirable. Experience with R&D claims submitted to Revenue is advantageous. Experience with grant applications is advantageous.
