Job Description Refurbishment | Rebuilds | OEM Capital Equipment | SolidWorks Location: Royton Salary: £45,000 per annum Type: Full-time, Permanent The Opportunity We’re recruiting for a Mechanical Design & Service Engineer to join a specialist OEM engineering business supporting the repair, refurbishment and rebuild of heavy industrial equipment and machinery.
This is a hands-on engineering role combining mechanical design, reverse engineering, technical problem-solving, and customer support. You’ll work on the refurbishment of existing machinery, creation of replacement parts, and continuous improvement of legacy equipment.
It’s a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex mechanical problems and working across the full product lifecycle, from inspection and fault diagnosis through to redesign, manufacture and assembly. Key Responsibilities Produce 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks Create and update Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering documentation Support repairs, refurbishments and rebuilds of OEM capital equipment Assess used machinery and components, identifying whether to repair, reuse or replace Carry out reverse engineering of existing components Produce technical reports and recommendations for repair scopes and quotations Support production teams during dismantling, inspection and rebuild phases Create work instructions and support manufacturing/assembly processes Manage engineering changes through ECN / change control processes Liaise with purchasing for component sourcing and specification Provide technical support to customer service, field service and sales teams Support customer visits, technical meetings, inspections and site-based discussions when required Drive product improvements, reliability upgrades and cost-reduction initiatives What We’re Looking For We’re open to candidates from design-heavy or service-heavy backgrounds, provided you have strong mechanical engineering fundamentals.
Essential
HND / Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) Experience in mechanical design or service/refurbishment engineering Experience working with industrial machinery or capital equipment Strong SolidWorks experience (3D modelling + manufacturing drawings) Knowledge of GD&T Experience with BOM creation Understanding of mechanical assemblies, fabrication and machining processes Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability
