Locum Medical Secretary (SystmOne) NHS GP Practice London W2 We are looking for an experienced Locum Medical Secretary to join a busy NHS GP practice in London W2. This is a full-time, Monday to Friday locum role offering a competitive hourly rate.
Role Purpose You will provide high-quality administrative and secretarial support to GPs and the wider primary care team, ensuring accurate patient correspondence, efficient diary management and smooth day-to-day practice operations using SystmOne.
Key Responsibilities Type and produce clinic letters, referral letters, test result correspondence and other clinical documentation from dictation or electronic templates, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality and timely turnaround Manage GP and clinician diaries: book, amend and prioritise appointments; coordinate home visits, urgent slots and clinic sessions Use SystmOne to update patient records, scan and file correspondence, process e-requests (e.g. prescriptions, referrals, fit notes) and track outstanding tasks Handle telephone and email enquiries from patients, hospitals, community teams and other agencies, triaging appropriately and escalating clinical queries to the right clinician Prepare documentation for clinics, MDTs and meetings; collate case lists, print notes/records and record outcomes as required Process and chase test results, referrals and hospital correspondence; ensure actions are logged and completed in line with practice protocols Support the reception/admin team with cover when needed, including prescription processing, patient queries and general administrative duties Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with GDPR, data protection, safeguarding and information governance policies Adhere to practice policies, NHS standards and CQC requirements, contributing to a safe, efficient and patient-focused service Essential Skills and Experience Minimum 2 years' experience as a medical secretary or similar clinical admin role within a GP practice or NHS setting Proven experience using SystmOne for diary management, correspondence and patient records Excellent audio and copy typing skills with high accuracy and speed; strong command of medical terminology Confident handling sensitive patient information with a clear understanding of confidentiality and data protection Strong organisational skills, able to prioritise a varied workload in a busy practice environment Excellent communication skills (telephone, email and face-to-face) with patients, clinicians and external agencies Ability to work independently, take initiative and adapt quickly to changing priorities Desirable AMSPAR or similar medical administration qualification Experience working in a London GP practice or familiarity with local primary care pathways Familiarity with CQC requirements and primary care compliance This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
