The Role – Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer

Working within a fast-paced manufacturing and production environment, youll be responsible for ensuring machinery, equipment and site services operate safely and efficiently.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, youll act as the key engineering contact on shift, combining hands-on mechanical and electrical maintenance with responsibility for prioritising engineering activities and improving plant performance.

Your responsibilities will include:

Carrying out electrical and mechanical fault finding, diagnostics and repairs on manufacturing equipment

Responding to machinery breakdowns and minimising production downtime

Completing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance

Acting as the senior engineering point of contact during your shift

Supporting and guiding other engineers and coordinating maintenance priorities

Identifying recurring equipment failures and conducting root cause analysis (RCA)

Improving machinery reliability, equipment efficiency and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)

Maintaining accurate maintenance records using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

Supporting engineering projects, new machinery installations and continuous improvement activities

Working closely with production teams to reduce breakdowns, waste and operating costs

Supporting engineering stores and spare parts management

Maintaining high standards of health and safety, including PUWER, LOLER and DSEAR compliance

What Were Looking For

Were keen to hear from experienced engineers who enjoy solving problems, taking ownership and working in a busy manufacturing environment.

Ideally, youll have:

Experience as a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, Shift Engineer or Senior Maintenance Engineer

Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills

Experience maintaining manufacturing machinery or automated production equipment

A background in food manufacturing, FMCG, production, packaging or general manufacturing

Experience with preventative maintenance, reactive breakdowns and machinery reliability

Knowledge of PPM, CMMS, root cause analysis and continuous improvement

Previous experience in a senior engineering, supervisory or shift leadership capacity

An engineering apprenticeship or relevant qualification such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC or equivalent

A proactive approach to health and safety, problem-solving and engineering improvements

You should be comfortable working independently, making decisions under pressure and taking responsibility for engineering performance during your shift.

Why Apply?

This is more than a standard maintenance engineering position.

Youll be joining a business that recognises the value of experienced engineers, invests in its people and provides the autonomy to make meaningful improvements.

With a salary of up to £60,000, a structured 4 on 4 off rota, excellent employee benefits and genuine opportunities for professional development, its an attractive opportunity for an engineer looking to progress their career without moving away from hands-on engineering.
