About the Role

Join VIY (Volunteer It Yourself) and use your trade expertise to change young lives. We are expanding and seeking a Freelance Multi-Trade Construction Mentor to guide, support, and coach vulnerable young people on our funded Youth and Community Construction Skills projects.

If you are a skilled freelancer looking to give back, inspire the next generation, and diversify your income away from standard site grind, this is your opportunity. Your Impact: Mentor & Train: Teach young people practical trade skills, with a core focus on Carpentry and Painting & Decorating.

Build Futures: Help young people work towards formal City & Guilds accreditations. Deliver Projects: Support VIY community build projects while maintaining hands-on trade work. Ensure Safety: Oversee site Health & Safety, managing risks for your team and the young people.

What We Are Looking For: Trade Expertise: Strong hands-on multi-trade experience or qualifications (ideally Carpentry and P&D). Safety First: Solid understanding of site management and Health & Safety procedures. People

Skills

A passion for motivating, supporting, and guiding young individuals (prior mentoring experience is preferred but not essential). Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with our youth engagement team and assessors. Job

Requirements

Mobility: A full clean UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle. Background Check: This post involves regulated activity and requires an Enhanced DBS check. (This will be organized and paid for by VIY. A criminal record will not automatically bar you from employment; all applications are assessed fairly on a case-by-case basis).
