Principal Civil Engineer (Water)

Overview

As a Principal Civil Engineer in Stantec’s Water division, you will lead collaboration with top UK water clients to improve how water is sourced, treated and distributed for communities. You’ll guide project teams from needs through detailed design, ensuring timely delivery within budget. You’ll work on UK-wide, iconic water projects and shape solutions that align with sustainability goals. This is a leadership-focused role with mentoring opportunities and a chance to influence major water infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead client partnerships with major water clients in the UK to develop solutions
• Guide projects from scoping to detailed design and delivery
• Manage and support project team members across assignments
• Produce and review technical reports, ensuring quality and compliance
• Plan design activities within required timescales and budgets
• Collaborate across disciplines (Process and MEICA) and environmental considerations

Key requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering (Bachelor or equivalent)
• Chartered status desirable and membership of a relevant engineering institution
• Experience in the water industry preferred
• Working knowledge of Process and MEICA disciplines preferred
• Understanding of environmental issues including net carbon preferred but not essential
• Ability to develop solutions from need to detailed design and manage project teams
• Experience in scoping and design within timescales and budgets
• Strong leadership and mentoring abilities
• Collaborative mindset and team-oriented
• Effective communication with clients and stakeholders
• Water industry design and delivery
• Process and MEICA knowledge
• Technical report production and checking
