Principal Structural Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead refurbishment and survey-led projects from inception to completion in central London, overseeing multiple schemes while building strong client relationships. You will work within a collaborative team, delivering high-quality engineering solutions across sectors and mentoring junior engineers. The position offers autonomy, clear progression into senior leadership, and direct engagement with blue-chip clients in a reputable practice.

Responsibilities

• deliver structural refurbishment projects
• conduct surveys and defect diagnosis
• prepare detailed technical reports
• lead projects from inception to completion
• maintain strong client relationships and attend client meetings
• mentor and support junior engineers
• perform structural analysis and design using standard software
• work across retail, residential, commercial and industrial sectors

Key requirements

• Chartered status with ICE or IStructE
• proven experience in refurbishment and survey projects
• excellent client-facing communication and report writing
• ability to manage projects independently
• experience across multiple sectors (retail, residential, commercial, industrial)
• competence in structural analysis and design with industry-standard software
• academic background in Civil or Structural Engineering (BEng or MEng)
