AgileSource Ltd is supporting a major public sector organisation undergoing significant transformation and is seeking an experienced Governance Lead to strengthen programme oversight, assurance, and delivery governance across a portfolio of complex change initiatives.
Contract £500 P/D - Inside IR35 Remote 6 Months This is an opportunity for a governance professional who brings calm, control, and credibility to large-scale programmes. You will act as the focal point for programme governance, ensuring robust decision-making, effective risk management, and consistent delivery standards across multiple workstreams.
The successful candidate will be responsible for creating the structure, discipline, and transparency required to support successful programme outcomes in a complex stakeholder environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate governance activities across major transformation programmes.
- Establish and maintain effective governance frameworks, processes, and controls.
- Support programme boards, steering committees, and executive governance forums.
- Ensure decision-making processes are clear, documented, and effectively managed.
- Develop and maintain governance reporting, dashboards, and assurance packs.
- Monitor programme risks, issues, dependencies, and escalations, ensuring timely visibility and resolution.
- Provide independent challenge and assurance to programme leadership teams.
- Drive consistency in programme controls, reporting standards, and governance disciplines.
- Support audit and assurance activities, ensuring compliance with public sector standards and requirements.
- Work closely with senior stakeholders to provide confidence in programme health, progress, and delivery readiness. Essential Experience:
- Proven experience operating as a Governance Lead, PMO Lead, Programme Governance Manager, or similar role within large-scale transformation programmes.
- Strong track record of delivering governance and assurance within complex public sector environments.
- Experience supporting senior governance forums, programme boards, and executive stakeholders.
- Demonstrable expertise in programme controls, reporting, risk management, and assurance.
- Ability to bring structure and clarity to complex delivery environments.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Experience producing high-quality governance documentation and executive-level reporting. Desirable Experience:
- Experience working across multiple major public sector transformation programmes.
- Knowledge of government delivery frameworks and assurance processes.
- Familiarity with MSP, PRINCE2, Agile delivery, or equivalent programme and project management methodologies.
- Experience operating within highly regulated or politically sensitive environments.
