Quality Engineer (SQA)Portsmouth£35,000 – £42,000 (Negotiable based on Experience) The Opportunity We’re recruiting for a Quality Project Engineer & SQA to join a precision engineering environment working on high-spec, tight-tolerance components.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong quality background in CNC/manufacturing who wants to play a key role in driving product quality, supplier performance, and continuous improvement across the business.
The Role Reporting to the Quality Manager, you’ll be responsible for ensuring products meet exacting standards, often at micron-level tolerances, while supporting process improvements and supplier quality performance. You’ll work closely with production, engineering, and suppliers to drive quality from design through to final inspection.
Key Responsibilities Quality & InspectionDevelop quality plans, inspection methods, and work instructionsPerform and oversee first article, in-process, and final inspectionsUtilise CMM and advanced metrology equipment to validate componentsEnsure compliance with ISO9001 and AS9100 standardsNon-Conformance & ImprovementManage non-conformances (NCRs) and lead root cause analysis (8D, 5 Whys)Drive CAPA activities to improve processes and reduce defectsLead continuous improvement initiatives to improve yield and reduce scrapSupplier QualityConduct supplier audits and monitor supplier performanceEnsure incoming materials meet required specificationsSupport supplier development and corrective actionsProcess & Data AnalysisLead Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) and Gauge R&R studiesApply SPC and process capability techniquesSupport production with controlled process changesWhat We’re Looking For ExperienceBackground in precision engineering / CNC machining environmentsExperience in quality engineering, inspection, or supplier qualityHands-on experience with CMMs and metrology equipmentSkills & KnowledgeStrong understanding of GD&T and engineering drawingsExperience with quality tools (MSA, SPC, CAPA, 8D, Lean Six Sigma)Familiarity with CAD/CAM or inspection software (e.G.
Polyworks, PC-DMIS, PowerInspect)Strong analytical and problem-solving skillsQualificationsHNC/HND or equivalent in Engineering (or relevant experience)ASQ CQE (desirable but not essential)Why Apply?
