Overview

As a Quantum Error Correction Researcher at Riverlane, you contribute to building the world’s first QEC stack to enable practical fault-tolerant quantum computing. You collaborate with mathematicians, physicists, and software engineers across research efforts from foundational decoding theory to product-informed studies. Your work spans novel decoding algorithms, modelling noise on qubits, and validating ideas through numerical tests and presentations. This role offers a chance to influence the direction of Riverlane’s QEC stack and publish findings.

Responsibilities

• Develop novel decoding algorithms and techniques
• Assess decoding challenges across various qubit modalities and quantum codes; tailor decoding approaches per platform
• Model physical noise processes on qubits to improve decoding accuracy
• Test and verify hypotheses using numerical methods
• Share results with Riverlane teams to guide QEC stack development
• Write papers and present at conferences

Key requirements

• Masters or PhD in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or related technical field or equivalent industry experience
• Knowledge of Python and/or C++
• Ability to work both independently and in a team
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to formulate open-ended theoretical problems from research projects
• Ability to learn from and build on academic literature
