About the Role

JLL Rating is seeking an experienced Rating professional to join our 55-strong team of dedicated business rates specialists operating across our UK office network. This role focuses on delivering specialist Investor/Developer business rates advice to clients across London and the South East.

Our Rating team advises on and manages business rates liabilities for leading property investors and developers, delivering industry-leading technical advice while maintaining strong, trusted client relationships. Depending on your level of experience, this role combines expert technical delivery with varying degrees of responsibility for client leadership, team mentorship, and business development.

Based at 1 Broadgate, EC2 – JLL's flagship London headquarters in the heart of the City. This state-of-the-art workspace provides exceptional facilities and collaborative environments, positioning you at the center of the capital's commercial real estate market with unparalleled access to clients, partners, and the broader JLL network.

Key Responsibilities

The scope and seniority of responsibilities will align with your level of experienceClient Service & Relationship ManagementDeliver exceptional business rates advisory services to Investor and Developer clientsSchedule and conduct regular client update meetings, providing clear strategic guidancePrepare accurate, timely client reports detailing portfolio performance and opportunitiesBuild and maintain strong relationships with clients and across the wider JLL teamIdentify opportunities for additional services and cross-selling within client relationshipsAt senior levels: Lead key client relationships and strategic account developmentTechnical DeliveryInspect properties and accurately measure buildings for business rates valuation purposesReview client business rate demands and refunds with precisionIdentify and action rate-saving opportunities across client portfoliosPrepare high-quality submissions to the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) to challenge and reduce liabilities where appropriateManage Check, Challenge and Appeal processes through to Valuation Tribunal, including case presentationDevelop and implement strategies to optimize vacancy-related business rates positionsAt senior levels: Provide technical leadership and quality assurance across complex mandatesBusiness Development & Team ContributionActively contribute to growing our Investor/Developer client baseSupport team members and collaborate effectively to deliver comprehensive client solutionsContribute to achieving client satisfaction and JLL Rating financial targetsManage workload, diary, inspections, and expenses efficiently and independentlyLiaise with other JLL teams and external professionals to provide integrated client serviceAt Associate/Director level: Lead business development initiatives, mentor junior team members, and contribute to strategic team directionEssential

Requirements

Qualifications & ExperienceRICS qualified Chartered Surveyor with commercial practice surveying background (corporate, public sector, or private practice)Post-qualification experience working within a Rating team, with depth of experience appropriate to the level you're applying forCurrent, demonstrable technical competence in business rates advisory workUp-to-date knowledge of business rates legislation and ability to apply it to develop client recommendationsAt Surveyor/Senior Surveyor level: Experience working in a Rating team focusing on delivery of client work and ability to undertake business development, either directly or supporting the teamAt Associate/Director level: Proven track record in client leadership, business development, and technical excellence; established market profile, strategic thinking capability, and demonstrated leadership or mentoring experienceTechnical SkillsProficiency with core business applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams)Experience with rating-specific systems (e.g., Riverlake, Analyse, Rates Data, Experian Goad, CalcuRate)Professional CompetenciesStrong relationship-building skills with clients and internal stakeholdersExcellent written and verbal communication, with particular strength in report writingEffective presentation skills for client meetings and Valuation Tribunal proceedingsProfessional, articulate telephone mannerCollaborative team player who recognizes and supports colleagues' contributionsCommercial awareness with ability to identify business development opportunitiesAt senior levels: Demonstrated leadership, mentoring ability, and strategic thinkingWhat We OfferThis role offers the opportunity to work within one of the UK's leading business rates advisory teams, handling high-profile Investor/Developer mandates while contributing to the continued growth of our specialized practice.
