Senior Design Engineer Hartlepool £65,000 - £75,000 per annum A specialist manufacturer delivering advanced refrigeration, chilled water, and HVAC systems for technically demanding applications. The business designs and delivers bespoke chilled water plants, refrigeration packages, and fully integrated cooling systems, taking projects from initial concept and system design through manufacturing, testing, and commissioning.

This is a senior technical position offering the opportunity to take ownership of complex refrigeration engineering projects and influence the development of high-performance cooling solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of refrigeration and chilled water systems from initial concept through to commissioning Act as the technical authority for thermodynamic design, component selection, system integration, and performance optimisation Produce and review calculations, P&IDs, specifications, technical documentation, and design reports Provide engineering governance throughout the full project lifecycle and commissioning Support sales and commercial teams with technical input for bids, proposals, customer discussions, and solution development Work closely with customers, suppliers, manufacturing, testing, and commissioning teams to ensure successful project delivery Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers within the refrigeration discipline Package: £65,000 - £75,000 per annum 25 days annual leave + Bank Holidays Pension scheme Continuous professional and technical development Career progression

What You'll Need

Strong technical background in refrigeration system and chilled water plant design Excellent understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, refrigeration system design, and modelling Experience designing and specifying chillers, refrigeration plants, or complex cooling systems Ability to produce and review engineering calculations, P&IDs, specifications, and technical documentation Experience working within relevant UKCA, regulatory, and engineering compliance requirements Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration Engineering, or a closely related discipline Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary projects Chartered Engineer status or progress towards chartership would be advantageous
