Senior Design Manager – Main Contractor Location: Central London Salary: Up to £100,000 + Package Project Value: £70 million The Opportunity An established main contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Design Manager to join the delivery team on a complex £70 million redevelopment in Central London.
The project is already under construction and involves significant cut-and-carve works, structural alterations and the integration of new-build elements within an existing structure. The successful candidate will take a leading role in managing the design process throughout the construction phase, ensuring technical information is coordinated, buildable and delivered in line with the programme.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected contractor and play a key role in the successful delivery of a technically challenging London scheme. Key Responsibilities Lead the design management process through the construction and delivery stages.
Manage and coordinate architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants and specialist subcontractors. Oversee the design of complex cut-and-carve works and structural alterations. Review drawings, specifications and technical submissions for buildability, compliance and coordination.
Chair design team meetings and drive the close-out of actions, RFIs and technical queries. Develop and manage the design programme in line with the construction schedule. Identify design risks, coordination issues and potential delays at an early stage.
Work closely with the project, commercial, planning and site teams. Manage contractor design portions, design changes and subcontractor packages. Ensure information is released accurately and in accordance with procurement and construction requirements.
Maintain compliance with Building Regulations, planning conditions, contractual requirements and company procedures. Support the project through commissioning, handover and completion. Candidate Requirements Proven experience working as a Senior Design Manager for a recognised main contractor.
Essential experience delivering complex cut-and-carve, refurbishment or structural alteration projects. Strong construction-stage design management experience. Experience working on major Central London schemes would be highly advantageous.
Sound understanding of structural, architectural and building-services coordination. Strong knowledge of design programmes, procurement schedules and information release processes. Ability to manage multiple consultants and specialist subcontractors.
Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving skills. Relevant construction, architectural or engineering qualification. Available immediately or able to start within four weeks. Package Salary of up to £100,000 Base Comprehensive company benefits package.
