Senior Embedded Software Engineer Oxford | Hybrid WorkingSalary: Competitive + Equity + Benefits Help Build the Future of AI Infrastructure A pioneering deep-tech company developing next-generation AI hardware is looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join its growing engineering team in Oxford.

Working on revolutionary accelerator technology, you'll play a key role in developing the firmware, device drivers and real-time control software that sit at the heart of a completely new computing platform. This is a rare opportunity to work on custom silicon, low-level software and cutting-edge AI infrastructure, taking hardware from first bring-up through to production deployment.

The role

You'll join a highly experienced multidisciplinary engineering team, owning the embedded software stack that enables advanced accelerator hardware to operate reliably in real-world systems. This is a hands-on position covering Linux drivers, firmware development, BSP bring-up and RTOS-based control software.

What you'll be doing

Developing and maintaining Linux kernel and bare-metal device drivers Writing firmware for embedded control and management processors Bringing up new hardware revisions from initial power-on through to stable system boot Developing RTOS-based control software with deterministic behaviour Debugging hardware/software integration issues using JTAG, oscilloscopes and logic analysers Supporting BSP development including clocking, interrupts and peripheral initialisation Working closely with hardware engineers to diagnose and resolve low-level system challenges Defining coding standards, code review processes and embedded software testing methodologies

What we're looking for

Essential Five or more years of embedded software in C/C++ on production hardware (a degree in electrical or computer engineering, or equivalent experience). Proven experience writing Linux device drivers: character, platform or PCIe.

Hands-on board support package bring-up on custom hardware, from schematic review to first OS boot. A solid grasp of RTOS concepts: task scheduling, inter-task communication, memory protection. Proficiency with hardware debug tools: JTAG/SWD debuggers, oscilloscopes and logic analysers.

Why join? Work on genuinely ground-breaking technology within AI infrastructure Develop software for custom hardware that has never existed before Be involved in the transition from prototype systems to volume production Collaborate with experts across software, hardware, optics and machine learning Have a significant influence on product direction and engineering practices Join an ambitious and rapidly growing engineering team at an early stage How to apply: If this role sounds like something you may be interested in, please apply or email Ella Atkinson with an updated CV and a suitable time to talk.
