Senior Lighting Engineer

Overview

In this role you will shape lighting solutions within a growing, multidisciplinary team at WSP. You’ll liaise with design teams, clients and authorities to develop detailed designs, feasibility studies and documentation that meet quality standards. You’ll engage with manufacturers and contractors, support proposals, and help nurture junior professionals. The position sits at the intersection of technical design, client relations and project delivery, offering opportunities to influence lighting strategies across sectors.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with Lighting and Energy Solutions team, design teams, stakeholders and clients
• Produce detailed design layouts, engineering drawings and support documentation
• Prepare feasibility reports, option reports and specifications
• Engage with luminaire, column, controls and electrical manufacturers
• Coordinate with contractors, respond to RFIs and TQs
• Conduct non-intrusive site visits to support lighting assessments and site clearance drawings
• Support development of proposals and monitor progress against milestones and budget
• Liaise with Local Authority clients and build relationships in Local Government
• Analyze client briefs and provide expert guidance
• Assist and mentor Early Career Professionals
• Represent WSP in the lighting industry and drive business development

Key requirements

• Proficient in Lighting Reality or Dialux and AutoCAD
• Strong understanding of external lighting standards, guidance, legislation and regulations
• General awareness of electrical design and lighting maintenance
• Experience in lighting design from conception to issue for construction
• Understanding of central management systems
• Ability to work independently and in a team with good communication and organizational skills
• Capable of coaching junior colleagues
• Experience in Local Government or Strategic Road Network sectors
• Knowledge of external lighting products
• EngTech registration with the Engineering Council and working toward IEng status
