Senior Mechanical Engineer, Water Projects

Overview As a Senior Mechanical Engineer in AECOM's Scotland Water Team, you will help deliver high-impact water and wastewater projects at scale. You'll work with cross-disciplinary teams to shape design and construction outcomes, contributing to Scotland's SR27 Enterprise and a multi-year delivery programme.

The role blends design delivery, site surveys and mentoring, with hybrid working options to support work-life balance. You'll solve complex hydromechanical challenges while advancing sustainable, resilient water systems.

Pay / Benefits hybrid working model flexible benefits AECOM University volunteering days part-time or flexible working arrangements career development opportunities Responsibilities Prepare feasibility studies, outline design, detailed design and construction support Produce plant layouts, design drawings and mechanical plant selection with specifications, WIMES data sheets, valve and equipment schedules, lifting strategies, headloss calculations and P&IDs Collaborate with civil, electrical, process and mechanical disciplines across the UK and Ireland Visit sites for surveys and liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers Attend and contribute to design reviews (HAZOPs, HAZIDs, ALMs, SWIFTS) Line manage and mentor Junior and Graduate Mechanical Engineers Check mechanical deliverables produced by others Key requirements Degree in Mechanical Engineering Progress towards Chartered Engineer status (e.g., IMechE) Proven ability to deliver engineering designs, reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations Hands-on experience delivering water and wastewater projects Collaborative mindset Mentoring and people development Clear communication and stakeholder engagement Engineering design delivery for water/wastewater Plant layouts and P&IDs Mechanical specifications and data sheets (WIMES)
