Job Description Senior Full Stack / Product Engineer Remote UK | £55,000£70,000 DOE | PermanentWe're working with a profitable, growing UK SaaS business to find a Senior Full Stack / Product Engineer who wants genuine ownership of a product rather than simply joining another development team.
This is a small, founder-led technology business with an established product and international customer base. You'll work closely with the founder and have significant influence over technical architecture, product decisions and how the engineering function evolves .This isn't a role for someone who wants a backlog of tickets handed to them.
We're looking for an experienced, opinionated engineer who enjoys understanding the problem, challenging assumptions and deciding what should be built as well as how to build it. What you'll be doing? You'll take broad ownership across the product and engineering lifecycle, including: Building and improving customer-facing features across the full stackMaking architectural and technical decisionsWorking primarily with PHP/Laravel and modern JavaScriptContributing confidently across backend and frontend developmentWorking directly with the founder on product direction and prioritiesChallenging requirements when you believe there's a better or simpler solutionImproving engineering practices, testing, reliability and maintainabilityUsing AI extensively within your software engineering workflowExperimenting with new AI tools, agents and development approachesTaking ideas from initial discussion through to productionWhat we're looking for?
You'll likely have strong experience as a Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack Engineer, Product Engineer or similar. More importantly, we're looking for someone who: Has strong software engineering fundamentals and genuine technical depthIs comfortable taking ownership without needing a large engineering team around themHas strong PHP/Laravel experience, or the technical ability and desire to become productive with Laravel quicklyCan work confidently across both backend and frontendThinks about systems and architecture, not just individual featuresHas strong opinions but enjoys having those opinions challengedUnderstands product and commercial trade-offsIs pragmaticyou know when something needs engineering properly and when the simplest solution is the right oneWants to become deeply involved in one product and business , rather than moving between short-term projectsAI matters here...
We're particularly interested in engineers who are genuinely excited about how AI is changing software development. Using Copilot occasionally isn't really what we mean. Perhaps you're experimenting with Claude Code, coding agents, MCP, local LLMs, agentic workflows, automated testing/review, AI-assisted architecture or your own development tooling .You don't need to agree with every current trend in AIin fact, we'd rather you had your own opinionsbut we'd expect AI to have meaningfully changed the way you build software.
We'd love to hear about what you've experimented with, what's worked, what hasn't, and where you think human engineering judgement still matters. The Opportunity; This is an unusually influential engineering position. You'll be joining a small business where good ideas can become production features quickly and where your decisions will genuinely shape the product.
There's significant scope for the role to grow alongside the company. For the right person, this is an opportunity to become the founder's long-term technical partner and take increasing ownership of the technology and product as the business develops.
Salary: £55,000£70,000 depending on experienceLocation: Remote, UK (with monthly/ quarterly team meet ups in Edinburgh)Employment: Permanent, full-timeIf you're a technically curious engineer who enjoys building products, experimenting with AI, challenging ideas and having real ownership , we'd like to hear from you.
