Senior Software Engineer - Recommend Team (Java)

Overview

In this role you will evolve and scale Wise’s recommendation platform and reward systems to attract and convert new customers globally. You’ll build core systems, APIs, and experiences that shape the first international money interactions for new users, collaborating with product, data, and design teams. You will own end-to-end delivery, driving improvements in onboarding, referrals, and rewards to create a delightful customer experience. This is a hands-on, impact-focused opportunity at a mission-driven fintech.

Responsibilities

• Evolve and scale the recommendation platform and reward mechanisms
• Build systems and APIs to support the first customer experience for new users
• Own end-to-end delivery of projects from idea to impact
• Collaborate daily with product managers, data scientists, data analysts, and engineers
• Advance testing strategies and write testable, maintainable code
• Contribute to a strong team culture and sound engineering practices

Key requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Java or Kotlin (or other JVM-based language)
• Strong experience with Spring framework, relational databases, distributed and concurrent systems (Kafka)
• Close collaboration with product managers, data scientists, data analysts, engineers and other product teams
• Experience writing unit and integration tests and practicing testing strategies
• Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences
• Strong product mindset with customer-centric, data-driven decision making
• Ability to work independently on customer problems and take end-to-end ownership
