Vacancy DetailsSenior UnderwriterSalary: Not specifiedLocation: Southend on Sea, EssexJob Type: PermanentRef: SJP230831As a Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for managing a team of Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters and overseeing the renewal underwriting process.

You will have expertise in evaluating risk, analysing policy renewals, and maintaining broker relationships. In addition, your strong leadership, and people management skills will be crucial in guiding and developing a high-performing team.

The role will include a product suite consisting of commercial combined, property owners, retail package, primary liability, excess liability, contract works, contractors' plant and equipmentResponsibilitiesCovering business and policies within Commercial Combined, Property Owners, Retail Package, General Liability, Contractors Liability Maintain premium income per binder in line with projections and company strategy.

Developing broker relationships to become a key referral point for brokers. Identifying renewal threats and assist handlers on renewal strategyEnsure compliance with best practice procedures (processes and timescales)Review and update renewal template letters to brokers (invitations and document issuing)Filter referrals to insurersA technical referral point, for the renewals teamExperience & KnowledgeCommercial underwriting experience is essential, specifically Property and Liability, ideally in all or some of the products mentioned above.

Previous experience in setting clear goals and objectives, monitoring progress, and providing regular feedback and coaching to ensure team members' growth. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex risks and make informed decisions.

Experience in dealing with Commercial brokers/ Insurers. Experience working in a small team in SME organisations. Experience in underwriting with delegated authority or underwriting licencesProven track record of developing new and existing relationships with key brokers.

Ability to work in as a team and on own initiative. Experience in using software systems for underwriting and administration. Skill Set Exceptional Leadership and Management skills Excellent organisation skills Strong communication and interpersonal skillsGenerous Salary and Benefits Package.
