Job Description Server Tooling and Orchestration Specialist4-6 monthsRemote£610 per day inside IR35 - Umbrella onlyActive SC cleared or SC eligableThe Server Tooling and Orchestration Specialist is responsible for the implementation, optimisation, and ongoing support of various infrastructure tooling and orchestration platforms.

These platforms are used to deliver automated request fulfilment, event management and workflow automation across customer environments. The role provides technical ownership of runbooks and integrations with ServiceNow, SCOM, Active Directory, Azure AD / Entra ID and related enterprise platforms.

Operating within a highly governed, ITIL-aligned service model, the post-holder ensures automation services are available, secure, compliant and delivered in line with agreed SLAs, change controls and operational standards.

Key ResponsibilitiesAdminister, support and maintain assigned infrastructure tooling environments including Microsoft System Center OrchestratorMaintain the availability, health, performance and resilience of production and non-production SCORCH environmentsSupport, troubleshoot and optimise SCORCH runbooks and PowerShell-based automation workflows used for request fulfilment and operational automationDiagnose and resolve failed automations, integration issues and workflow errors impacting business or operational servicesManage integrations between SCORCH, ServiceNow, SCOM, Active Directory, Azure AD / Entra ID, Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams and other connected platformsPlan, schedule and control lifecycle activities including patching, upgrades, capacity management, release activity and platform maintenanceProduce and maintain operational documentation, runbook guidance, knowledge articles and support proceduresInvestigate incidents and problems relating to automation services, supporting root cause analysis and service improvement activityEnsure all changes are delivered in accordance with agreed standards, security controls, customer processes and defined change windowsSupport service restoration and major incident activity where automation, monitoring or integration services are impactedSkills RequiredStrong hands-on experience administering, supporting and troubleshooting Microsoft System Center Orchestrator, ideally SCORCH 2022 or laterExperience designing, maintaining, testing and deploying Orchestrator runbooks in enterprise environmentsAdvanced PowerShell scripting experience, including automation using Active Directory, Exchange Online, Azure AD / Entra IDExperience integrating SCORCH with ServiceNow, including ITSM workflows, automated ticket creation, request fulfilment, REST API and OAuth-based integrationsKnowledge of Microsoft SCOM integration, alert processing, event management workflows and monitoring-tool integrationMicrosoft SQL Server administration fundamentals relevant to Orchestrator databases and platform supportStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex automation, runbook, database and integration issuesExperience supporting lifecycle activities such as patching, upgrades, resilience testing, capacity management and platform transitionsAbility to understand automation logic, workflow design, runbook content and operational dependencies across large customer environmentsExperience working within an ITIL-based environment (Incident, Change, Problem, Release Management) with the ability to manage support queues and workload to meet SLA targetsStrong communication, documentation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical issues and recommendationsProactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks and issuesAbility to remain calm and effective under pressure, particularly during critical situationsFlexibility to support out-of-hours activities where requiredDesirableExperience with Kelverion Integration Packs, including ServiceNow REST, SQL Server, data manipulation, text manipulation and runbook managementExperience supporting highly available SCORCH architectures, SQL Always-On Availability Groups, Hyper-V Replica or equivalent resilience technologiesExperience with VMware PowerCLI, virtualisation platforms, hybrid Data Centre environments or wider infrastructure automation toolingCustomer-facing experience with a strong focus on service delivery, operational ownership and stakeholder confidenceExperience working within secure, regulated or highly governed customer environmentsEssential CriteriaMust have, or be able to obtain SC clearanceExperience supporting Microsoft SCORCH runbooks and automation servicesRunbook development, troubleshooting, PowerShell automation and lifecycle management.
