This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Tax Investigations Manager, Tax Disputes Manager, or Senior Tax Manager with a strong HMRC investigations background to join a specialist tax team. The role offers significant exposure to complex HMRC enquiries, COP8 and COP9 investigations, voluntary disclosures, tax disputes, and contentious tax matters, alongside client advisory and business development responsibilities.
The RoleAs a Tax Investigations Senior Manager, you will take ownership of complex HMRC investigations from initial enquiry through to resolution. Key responsibilities include:Managing complex HMRC enquiries, including COP8 and COP9 investigationsAdvising individuals and businesses throughout the investigation processManaging voluntary disclosures and full or aspect enquiriesPreparing detailed responses and technical submissions to HMRCActing as the main point of contact with HMRC officersRepresenting clients during meetings, negotiations, and correspondenceProviding technical analysis of complex UK tax mattersIdentifying tax risks and developing strategies to mitigate exposureNegotiating practical and commercially focused outcomes with HMRCPreparing clear technical reports and client adviceBuilding strong relationships with clients, legal advisers, and professional contactsSupporting business development through networking and identifying new opportunitiesMentoring and developing junior members of the teamDelivering internal training and sharing knowledge on tax investigations and disputesAbout YouYou'll have:CTA qualified, with ACA, ACCA, or equivalent qualifications also consideredSignificant post-qualification experience in UK tax investigations and disputesStrong experience dealing directly with HMRCDetailed knowledge of UK tax legislation and HMRC proceduresExperience handling COP8, COP9, voluntary disclosures, and complex enquiriesExcellent technical research, analytical, and problem-solving skillsStrong written and verbal communication abilitiesThe confidence to explain complex tax matters clearly to clientsExcellent client relationship and negotiation skillsA commercial and proactive approach to business developmentExperience coaching and developing junior colleaguesWhat's on OfferHybrid and flexible workingCompetitive salary and benefits packageSpecialist Tax Investigations and Disputes roleExposure to complex HMRC investigationsSignificant client and advisory responsibilityBusiness development and networking opportunitiesLeadership and mentoring responsibilitiesOngoing technical and professional developmentClear career progression within a growing tax teamLocationBristol, South WestCommutable from Bath, Keynsham, Portishead, Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon, Yate, Thornbury, and surrounding areas.
