Technical Architect

Overview

In this role you will act as the senior technical owner for the customer delivery, ensuring architectural coherence across applications, cloud platforms and services. You will govern designs, assess risk and drive alignment with security and operation requirements.

Responsibilities

• Maintain end-to-end technical coherence across applications, cloud platforms, integrations and support services
• Provide architecture governance and technical assurance for designs, roadmaps and supplier deliverables
• Lead or support design reviews and governance forums with clear recording of decisions and constraints
• Review technical proposals to ensure security, resilience and maintainability
• Make technical decisions within authority and provide evidence-based recommendations to the customer
• Identify and manage technical risks, issues and dependencies with clear mitigations and owners
• Oversee technical debt, obsolescence and sustainability concerns, shaping improvement roadmaps
• Oversee supplier delivery and take corrective action or escalate when standards are not met
• Ensure operational readiness including monitoring, resilience, backups and escalation paths
• Support service transition, onboarding and go-live decisions with technical evidence
• Collaborate with security teams to address security-by-design and compliance
• Provide senior technical input to major incidents and cross-supplier escalations
• Produce concise assurance reports and governance updates for leadership audiences
• Promote consistent architecture practices and continual improvement across the service

Key requirements

• Extensive experience as Technical Architect / Lead Architect / Technical Authority in a complex enterprise
• Experience delivering architecture governance and assurance in multi-supplier or regulated environments
• Background supporting UK Government or public sector digital services or comparable regulated services
• Broad knowledge of cloud, application architecture, integration, DevSecOps, security and live service operations
• Proven ability to review designs, non-functional requirements and operational models
• Experience managing technical risk, architecture exceptions and senior escalations
• Experience enabling service transition, operational readiness and continual improvement
• Working knowledge of AWS and Microsoft Azure; familiarity with Gov standards and security principles
• Understanding of ITIL 4, SIAM, ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 20000-1 and OWASP practices
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to explain complex topics to diverse audiences
