Technical Manager (Food Manufacturing)Salary: 49,737Location: Essex About the OpportunityAn established and growing food manufacturing business is seeking an experienced Technical Manager to lead its food safety, quality, and compliance functions.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically driven professional to play a key role in maintaining the highest standards across the site while supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Working closely with senior leadership, you will be responsible for ensuring the site's Quality Management System (QMS) remains compliant with industry standards and legislative requirements, while developing a strong food safety culture across the business.
Key ResponsibilitiesManage and maintain the Food Safety & Quality Management System (QMS).Lead and continuously review the site's HACCP plan, ensuring all monitoring and verification activities are completed. Oversee food safety systems including HACCP, VACCP, TACCP, Food Defence, and traceability.
Ensure compliance with BRCGS, GMP, FEMAS and relevant UK/EU food legislation. Maintain technical documentation, supplier approvals, specifications, certificates, and records. Manage customer and supplier technical documentation requests.
Plan and conduct internal audits, driving corrective and preventative actions. Ensure document control and review processes are effectively managed. Work closely with production and department managers to maintain up-to-date procedures and standards.
Manage relationships with external pest control and cleaning contractors, ensuring actions are completed and standards continuously improve. Monitor cleaning effectiveness through auditing and verification. Develop and deliver food safety training across the business.
Support Health & Safety training initiatives alongside operational management. Lead, coach and develop the Quality Assurance team and Laboratory Team Leader. Deputise for the Head of Technical when required. About YouWe're looking for someone with: Previous experience in a Technical Manager or Senior QA/Technical role within food manufacturing.
Strong knowledge of HACCP, Food Safety, Quality Management Systems and auditing. Experience working to BRCGS, GMP and relevant food industry standards. Excellent understanding of UK food legislation and compliance requirements.
Experience managing audits, supplier approval systems and technical documentation. Strong leadership skills with experience developing and managing technical teams. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement. DesirableHACCP Level 4Lead Auditor qualification. Food Safety qualification. Health & Safety qualification or experience supporting H&S programmes. Experience working within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Discipline(s): Food & DrinkJob type: Permanent
