Job Description This position is on a 3-shift rotation, rotating weekly between nights (22:00-06:00), afternoons (14:00-22:00) and mornings (06:00-14:00).Main purpose of the jobThe Unit Leader will supervise and control the allocated Operational Processes & Personnel to ensure production targets are met, while managing the unit in a cost-effective manner and to budget constraints.
Responsible to drive forward their designated areas and assist in any associated activities in order to effectively meet all key measurable objectives and targets, including ensuring employees are fully aware of Health & Safety processes and procedures.
Main missions and resultsSupervise Lead Operator / Trainer / General Operators, communicating clearly and honestly and ensuring transparency in performance and issue reportingResponsible for update of crewing board at start of shift and aligning operational heads to meet customer build plan, identifying opportunities for labour sharing or agency reductionPerform shift handover covering all necessary KPIs / aspects of the unit performancePromote a collaborative and inclusive team environment, encouraging teamwork and shared ownership of objectivesIdentify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance safety, quality and efficiencyLiaise with support departments to obtain required resource / activity to solve issuesManage data accuracy within unit and adherence to quality standards / cycle times / process methods / production and scrap booking etc.
Monitor / manage job pack adherence, ensuring completion before starting ProductionEnsure all employees are trained within unit, enabling the part to be produced and shipped, defect freeManage all Health & Safety aspects of your unit (your skills must include First Aid at Work training will be provided), ensuring all company health and safety procedures are followedOperate 5M methodology by unit, covering all packaging and BOP, including use of Shoplogix / MattecManage staff attendance via Timeware / Return to work process etc.
Ensure timely resolution of any HR issuesSupervise area/s in the absence of the Shift ManagerAttend any training and development courses as required to maximise roleBox and part label printing as requiredPreferred skills and experienceEssentialILM Level 3 in Management and IOSH trained (or equivalent), or willing to work towardsNumerate and literate to minimum O Level / GCSE CExperience of leading within an Automotive unionised environment and dealing with conflictInfluencing and persuasive style with a Can Do attitude with propensity to problem solveAbility to manage time effectively and prioritise tasks on shiftFlexible and adaptableMotivational and coaching approach to teamDemonstrates respectful and professional communication, listening actively and treating others fairlyComputer literate plus Microsoft packagesExcellent communication skills at all levelsAbility to analyse dataDesirableProblem solving trainingFirst Aid trainingFire warden trainingKnowledge of starting, stopping and purging injection moulding machinesMattec / Shoplogix, RFGen and Deviation system knowledge (training provided)Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methodologies 5S, Kaizen, SMED etcNote: this is not an exhaustive list.
