Why would a principal electrical engineer leave London? Usually because the projects stopped justifying the commute. Cambridge's science economy has quietly built a better offer. This is a principal seat in the building services team of a global engineering consultancy with an established Cambridge office.

The local market builds some of the most demanding buildings in the country, laboratories and research campuses among them, and the firm's national standards travel with the work. You provide technical leadership across the electrical discipline: directing design, reviewing the work that matters, fronting clients, and developing the engineers underneath you.

The platform gives you specialist colleagues and a documented route upwards, in an office small enough that your influence is visible. The practice also gives principals room to keep one hand in the engineering. The review work, the client leadership and the development of the team all matter, but the firm has not forgotten that technical credibility is the foundation of all three, and it protects the time that maintains it.

The science clients notice the difference, and so will you. Relocation support is a conversation the firm is open to for the right person, and the Cambridge market itself does a lot of the persuading once you have seen the project list.

If you are principal grade inside the M25 and wondering why, this is the question answered. Salary is between £78,000 and £105,000.A conversation costs nothing. A CV can follow later.
