Principal Application Engineer

Overview As Principal Application Engineer, you are the domain's deep technical authority for the Power portfolio, shaping reference architectures and design standards. You will coordinate internal specialists and third parties to resolve the toughest technical questions, and provide final technical say on configurations and non-standard solutions.

You'll bring deep dive expertise to strategic Technical Sales engagements and mentor the wider engineering community. This role offers impact through scalable capability building, architecture governance, and advancing emerging technologies in critical power systems.

Responsabilità Own reference architectures and design rules for the domain and keep them current as technology evolves Own simulation and digital-twin based design validation to prove architectures before commitment Act as senior technical reviewer and escalation point for complex designs and non-standard solutions Provide deep-dive technical input to consultant engagements and strategic Technical Sales pursuits Coordinate internal specialists and third parties on complex solutions while maintaining a clear technical thread Govern the engineering library for the domain and enforce reuse across products and BUs Own technical training and certification in the domain for Application Engineers, Technical Sales and partners Mentor and develop engineers across disciplines to raise the technical bar Train Application Engineers and Technical Sales in system-level thinking for the domain Collaborate with Product Management and factory engineering on gaps, roadmaps and new technology Support the Power System Lead on architectural questions and emergence of new tech Develop domain capabilities for CP and Engineered Solutions, engaging ETO and Global Engineering early Provide validated design rules and data for CPQ, configurators and AI-enabled engineering tools Convert lessons from complex projects into reusable standards, training and assets Requisiti fondamentali Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or equivalent practical experience Minimum 12 years of experience in application engineering, design engineering or power systems Deep domain expertise with strong knowledge of UPS, power distribution, LV/MV switchgear, busway, energy storage and DC power Credible on emerging technologies: BESS, microgrid, grid interaction, 800V DC architectures, power software and controls Deep MV (up to 36kV) and LV distribution, switchgear, busbar systems, transformers, UPS, protection and automation knowledge Experience with network calculation, simulation and digital-twin tooling; familiarity with IEC, IEEE, EMEA codes Proven ability to set standards and raise capability of others Strong written and verbal English; additional EMEA languages advantageous Strong written and verbal communication Mentoring and capability building Judgement under ambiguity Domain expertise in Critical Power Systems, grid interaction and energy storage Reference architectures and design standards Digital-twin and simulation tooling
