Associate Director - Civil CDAE - Energy

Overview

As Associate Director, you will lead end-to-end HV substation design and civil engineering on major energy projects, including National Grid initiatives, from concept to energisation. You will act as lead CDAE Civil Engineer on National Grid projects and mentor engineers while coordinating multidisciplinary design. The role emphasizes delivering grid-scale infrastructure that supports the UK energy transition and international projects. You’ll work with clients, manage budgets and schedules, and drive technical feasibility and design verification in a collaborative, impactful environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end HV substation design from concept to energisation
• Serve as lead CDAE Civil Engineer on National Grid projects
• Liaise with clients and manage project activities within time and budget
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design of energy infrastructure
• Respond to technical queries from project teams
• Act as Lead Verifier for studies and design reports as chief civil engineer
• Direct and mentor junior engineers and graduates

Key requirements

• BEng (Hons) in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Chartered status or active towards chartership
• CDAE certification
• Experience in civil engineering with medium/high voltage grid connections, including cable routing and National Grid experience
• Client liaison and communication
• Mentoring and leadership of junior staff
• Collaborative teamwork across disciplines
• HV substation design
• Civil design coordination for energy infrastructure
• Cable routing for HV networks
