HVAC Design Engineer

Overview

In this role you act as the main interface between HVAC design and construction teams, developing and validating HVAC designs to meet project requirements and standards. You will coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, support commissioning, and contribute to risk, safety, and change management in a nuclear environment. You collaborate with project managers, QA, and contractors to ensure design intent and compliant documentation. The position offers ongoing training, internal promotion paths, and hybrid work options.

Responsibilities

• Interface between HVAC design and construction teams
• Develop and review HVAC designs and confirm specifications
• Assess compliance with standards and project requirements
• Review contractor docs, drawings, method statements, and test plans
• Support integration of HVAC with mechanical, electrical, and building services
• Participate in design coordination and multi-disciplinary reviews
• Contribute to risk assessments, hazard reviews, and safety evaluations
• Support commissioning to ensure operation per design intent
• Provide input for change management and configuration control
• Maintain communication with project managers, QA teams, and other disciplines

Key requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related discipline
• 3–5 years of relevant HVAC design/building services experience
• Familiarity with HVAC codes and standards (ASHRAE, CIBSE, ISO, local regulations)
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Experience with contractors, site teams, and multidisciplinary groups
• Strong communication and collaborative skills
• Experience in regulated industries or complex infrastructure projects advantageous but not essential
