Senior Engineer - Bridges

Overview

As Senior Engineer (Bridges) you will lead and mentor aStructures team within Amey Consulting Structures in Edinburgh, delivering technically sound bridge schemes from conception to handover. You will manage projects, liaise with clients and suppliers, and drive health and safety while shaping maintenance and refurbishment strategies for major crossings.

You’ll work across high-profile projects and complex structures, contributing to sustainable infrastructure and safety-first outcomes. This role offers high impact through leadership, technical excellence, and engagement with multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead a design team and deliver technically sound engineering solutions
• Own projects from quotation to handover and manage workload
• Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings, and scheme deliverables
• Mentor junior staff and act as Delegated Engineer
• Coordinate with clients and suppliers and respond to queries
• Contribute to bids and work-winning activities
• Drive Health and Safety practices within the team
• Manage a small, single-discipline technical team and ensure deliverables align with other disciplines

Key requirements

• Experience in the Structures field, gained in an Engineer role or equivalent
• Ability to produce or oversee technically sound solutions meeting standards and client requirements
• Proficient in relevant software/tools (e.g., LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design)
• Strong commercial awareness and risk assessment knowledge (CDM)
• Experience in risk management, interface management, and coordination with other disciplines
• Chartered or Incorporated status with ICE or IStructE or equivalent (desirable)
• Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate subject (or demonstrable equivalent)
