Job Description Senior Geotechnical Design EngineerLocation: CamberleyContract: Permanent, Full TimeSector: Geotechnical Design / Ground Engineering / Specialist FoundationsThe OpportunityAn excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to join a leading specialist ground engineering contractor.

This role is suited to a geotechnical engineer with strong technical design capability who is looking to work on complex foundation, retaining-wall, basement, ground-improvement and underground-engineering projects. You will support the design and delivery of specialist geotechnical solutions from tender stage through to construction, working closely with design managers, project teams, site engineers, clients and external consultants.

The RoleAs Geotechnical Design Engineer, you will be involved in the design, analysis and technical coordination of specialist ground engineering projects. You will prepare calculations, design reports, drawings, specifications and technical submissions while supporting both tender-stage and live project delivery.

The role will require close collaboration with construction teams to ensure designs are practical, efficient, safe and aligned with project requirements. Key Responsibilities -Geotechnical DesignPrepare geotechnical designs for specialist ground engineering projectsUndertake calculations for foundations, retaining walls, embedded walls and temporary worksSupport the design of piling, diaphragm walls, secant piled walls, contiguous piled walls and ground-retention systemsAssist with designs for basements, deep excavations, ground improvement and slope stabilityDevelop practical and buildable solutions in line with project requirementsInterpret ground investigation data and geotechnical parametersPrepare design reports, technical notes and calculation packagesApply relevant Eurocodes, British Standards and industry guidanceEnsure design outputs are accurate, technically robust and properly documentedTender and Pre-Construction SupportSupport tender-stage design and value engineeringReview client requirements, ground investigation reports and technical specificationsAssist with design assumptions, risk reviews and construction methodologyContribute to technical proposals and tender submissionsWork with estimators, planners and construction teams to develop cost-effective solutionsIdentify technical risks, opportunities and alternative design approachesSupport optioneering and buildability reviewsProvide technical input into method statements and project planningProject Delivery SupportProvide technical support to project and site teams during constructionRespond to design queries and technical issues raised during deliveryReview site information and update designs where requiredLiaise with internal project teams, clients, consultants and subcontractorsSupport temporary works and construction-phase design requirementsAttend design meetings, technical reviews and project workshopsAssist with design changes, variations and technical approvalsMaintain clear communication between design and construction teamsTechnical DocumentationPrepare design calculations, sketches, reports and specificationsSupport the production and review of drawings and technical submissionsCoordinate with CAD technicians and wider design teamsMaintain accurate design records and document controlAssist with checking and reviewing technical informationEnsure work is completed in accordance with quality proceduresSupport design risk assessments and CDM requirementsContribute to project close-out documentation where requiredSoftware and AnalysisUse appropriate geotechnical design and analysis softwareUndertake hand calculations and independent design checks where requiredSupport numerical analysis and modelling where appropriateReview outputs critically and ensure assumptions are clearly recordedUse CAD and technical drawing information to support design developmentDevelop technical competence across specialist geotechnical systemsAbout YouYou will be a technically focused geotechnical engineer with experience in design, analysis and project support within the UK ground engineering sector.

You should be confident working with ground investigation data, design standards and engineering calculations, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation. The role would suit someone who enjoys solving practical engineering problems and working closely with construction teams to develop buildable solutions.
