Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer Location: Camberley Contract: Permanent, Full Time Sector: Geotechnical Design / Ground Engineering / Specialist Foundations The Opportunity An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to join a leading specialist ground engineering contractor.
This role is suited to a geotechnical engineer with strong technical design capability who is looking to work on complex foundation, retaining-wall, basement, ground-improvement and underground-engineering projects. You will support the design and delivery of specialist geotechnical solutions from tender stage through to construction, working closely with design managers, project teams, site engineers, clients and external consultants.

The Role As Geotechnical Design Engineer, you will be involved in the design, analysis and technical coordination of specialist ground engineering projects. You will prepare calculations, design reports, drawings, specifications and technical submissions while supporting both tender-stage and live project delivery.
The role will require close collaboration with construction teams to ensure designs are practical, efficient, safe and aligned with project requirements. Key Responsibilities - Geotechnical Design Prepare geotechnical designs for specialist ground engineering projects Undertake calculations for foundations, retaining walls, embedded walls and temporary works Support the design of piling, diaphragm walls, secant piled walls, contiguous piled walls and ground-retention systems Assist with designs for basements, deep excavations, ground improvement and slope stability Develop practical and buildable solutions in line with project requirements Interpret ground investigation data and geotechnical parameters Prepare design reports, technical notes and calculation packages Apply relevant Eurocodes, British Standards and industry guidance Ensure design outputs are accurate, technically robust and properly documented Tender and Pre-Construction Support Support tender-stage design and value engineering Review client requirements, ground investigation reports and technical specifications Assist with design assumptions, risk reviews and construction methodology Contribute to technical proposals and tender submissions Work with estimators, planners and construction teams to develop cost-effective solutions Identify technical risks, opportunities and alternative design approaches Support optioneering and buildability reviews Provide technical input into method statements and project planning Project Delivery Support Provide technical support to project and site teams during construction Respond to design queries and technical issues raised during delivery Review site information and update designs where required Liaise with internal project teams, clients, consultants and subcontractors Support temporary works and construction-phase design requirements Attend design meetings, technical reviews and project workshops Assist with design changes, variations and technical approvals Maintain clear communication between design and construction teams Technical Documentation Prepare design calculations, sketches, reports and specifications Support the production and review of drawings and technical submissions Coordinate with CAD technicians and wider design teams Maintain accurate design records and document control Assist with checking and reviewing technical information Ensure work is completed in accordance with quality procedures Support design risk assessments and CDM requirements Contribute to project close-out documentation where required Software and Analysis Use appropriate geotechnical design and analysis software Undertake hand calculations and independent design checks where required Support numerical analysis and modelling where appropriate Review outputs critically and ensure assumptions are clearly recorded Use CAD and technical drawing information to support design development Develop technical competence across specialist geotechnical systems About You You will be a technically focused geotechnical engineer with experience in design, analysis and project support within the UK ground engineering sector.
You should be confident working with ground investigation data, design standards and engineering calculations, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation. The role would suit someone who enjoys solving practical engineering problems and working closely with construction teams to develop buildable solutions.
