Epoch Biodesign is a well‐funded, venture‐backed start‐up using biology to make every type of plastic recyclable - starting with Nylon. We use AI, synthetic biology and green chemistry to scale enzymatic recycling processes that transform unrecyclable plastics into new, virgin‐quality materials.

Our pilot plant already processes Nylon 6,6 waste at the multi‐tonne level and we will soon complete our larger demo facility, producing material for garments from some of the world's biggest brands and components for major car companies.

Role We're looking for an experienced and innovative Senior Process Engineer to join the process team. You will report to the Head of Scale‐Up and will play a crucial role in developing and scaling up processes for the enzymatic depolymerisation and repolymerisation of polymers. Drive Process Innovation: Design and run experiments focused on enzymatic plastic recycling and polymer regeneration Lead Scale‐Up Projects: Manage the transition from lab‐scale R&D to pilot and full‐scale operations, including process design and commissioning Engineer Solutions: Tackle complex technical challenges and deliver high‐impact results across product and process development Mentor & Collaborate: Guide junior engineers and engage with partners, customers, and internal teams to align on goals and outcomes Essential Skills and Experience Master's degree in chemical engineering (or related) and Chartered Chemical Engineer status 7+ years in process/product development, with hands‐on expertise in scale‐up, equipment design, and plant commissioning Strong leadership, data analysis, project management, and the ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts Experience scaling up novel or early‐stage technologies, with a proven ability to translate pilot data into robust Demo or commercial operating conditions Strong hands‐on commissioning and troubleshooting skills across complex unit operations (reactors, separations, automation, utilities), ideally in pilot or demonstration environments Ability to work in fast‐paced, innovation‐driven settings, collaborating across R&D, engineering, and operations to rapidly iterate, de‐risk processes, and drive technical improvements Project and Team Management: Ability to independently design, plan, and execute project tasks and scientific R&D.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills. Ability to produce and present technical information for internal and external audiences. Experience managing, mentoring, and developing junior engineers A mindset driven by passion for sustainability and a focus on innovation in the recycling, waste, and biotechnology sectors A full, clean UK driving licence Epoch Biodesign offers a comprehensive benefits program.
