Overview

In this role, you will help build a market-leading Warranty & Indemnity capability within Markel’s PFR team, focusing on SME W&I risks. You will underwrite using a technical rating model, leverage a large data pool to inform decisions, and develop broker and client relationships. You’ll influence the W&I strategy and collaborate across the wider organization to drive profitability and growth. This position offers exposure to M&A processes and innovative risk/IT solutions in a collaborative, global insurer setting.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new W&I risks using the technical rating model and coverage guidelines
• Harvest and apply portfolio data insights to refine underwriting approaches
• Build and maintain relationships with brokers, distribution partners, and PE/acquisitive clients
• Analyze portfolio data and iterate the rating model and coverage guidelines to drive margin and growth
• Negotiate policy terms and conditions and navigate drafting/wording with specialists
• Strengthen internal collaboration within Markel and support cross-functional initiatives

Key requirements

• M&A consultancy/advisory experience with exposure to M&A processes, due diligence, and deal documentation or direct W&I underwriting experience
• Relationship-building and stakeholder management

• Understanding of the technical rating engine
• Portfolio analysis and loss performance evaluation
