Technical Author – Building Services & ConstructionLocation: GlasgowSalary: 45,000–60,000 DOEEmployment: Full-Time, PermanentCompany OverviewA respected building services and construction contractor with a strong presence across Scotland is looking to appoint an experienced Technical Author.
The business delivers complex projects across healthcare, education, commercial, industrial, and public-sector frameworks, and requires dedicated support to produce high-quality handover documentation aligned to industry and statutory requirements.
Role OverviewYou will play a key role in producing fully compliant Operating & Maintenance (O&M) Manuals for a wide range of Scottish construction projects. This includes NHS facilities, major education developments, commercial buildings, and public infrastructure schemes.
You'll be responsible for planning, compiling, coordinating, and delivering technical handover documentation that supports building lifecycle management and facilities operations. Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, coordinate, and deliver O&M Manuals for building fabric and M&E systems in line with industry standards such as BSRIA BG 26, BSRIA BG 54, ISO 19650, and Scottish Building StandardsLiaise with design teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather as-built data, commissioning records, and technical submissionsEnsure documentation meets framework-specific requirements (including HFS/NHS, SFT, HubCo, and private-sector frameworks)Support integration of digital asset data with BIM models, including COBie and Asset Information Models (AIMs)Conduct thorough quality reviews to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, and compliance across all deliverablesAssist with project handover activities, including compiling client documentation and supporting presentations or aftercare informationAbout YouHND/Degree in Building Services, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline3–5 years' experience producing O&M manuals or technical handover documentationStrong understanding of M&E systems, building fabric, construction processes, and digital workflowsFamiliarity with BSRIA, CIBSE, HFS, SFT, and other sector standardsProficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and document management systems (e.g., Aconex, Viewpoint, Asite)Excellent written communication skills and the ability to structure clear, compliant technical documentsStrong organisational and coordination abilities, with the confidence to liaise at all project levelsDesirableExperience with BIM and ISO 19650 information management processesUnderstanding of Scottish Government or NHS procurement frameworksKnowledge of Net Zero, sustainability reporting, or public-sector carbon compliance requirementsWhat's on OfferCompetitive salary 45,000–60,000 DOEBenefits including EV salary sacrifice scheme, Cycle to Work Scheme, and company pension26 days annual leaveOpportunities to work on a diverse range of high-profile Scottish projectsProfessional development in BIM, digital asset management, and structured handover documentationSupportive, collaborative team culture with flexible hybrid working optionsHow to ApplyIf you're an experienced Technical Author looking to join a forward-thinking contractor with a strong pipeline of high-profile projects, please apply or contact Jay for a confidential discussion Salary: 45K-60K DOE Location: Glasgow Type: permanentSUBMIT CV
