Pipeline Engineer

Overview

As a Pipeline Civil Engineer, you will deliver engineering across major pipeline lifecycles, collaborating with clients and multidisciplinary teams. You will design buried pipelines, oversee material selection and thrust restraint, and apply trenchless technologies. You will evaluate rehabilitation options, perform condition and failure assessments, and produce high-level technical reports. You will contribute to proposals and research initiatives with industry bodies, shaping resilient water infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• provide technical engineering across full lifecycle of major pipeline projects
• design buried pipelines including structural considerations
• perform thrust restraint design and trenchless technology applications
• apply pipeline analysis tools and evaluate rehabilitation options
• conduct condition and failure assessments to extend asset life
• contribute to project proposals and produce technical reports
• support and drive research initiatives with industry bodies (UKWIR, CIRIA)

Key requirements

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering with Chartered or Incorporated status (or working toward) with ICE or CIWEM
• proven experience in structural design of buried pipelines and related standards (BS EN 1295-1:2019, BS 9295:2020)
• thrust restraint design knowledge (CIRIA C816/Report 128) and trunk main design
• familiarity with thermoplastic/metallic pipe materials
• experience in pipeline rehabilitation, trenchless design principles, and failure assessments
• piping analysis software experience (e.g., CAESAR II)
• strong proposal and report-writing skills and ability to liaise with multidisciplinary stakeholders
